BODY WORLDS: The Anatomy of Happiness interprets the latest research and findings by social scientists on how happiness is determined and presents medical findings about the impact of happiness on the body and mind. The exhibition will teach audiences what parts of their anatomy are involved in happiness and how positive or negative emotions can affect the entire body.
What is Body Worlds?
BODY WORLDS: The Original Exhibition, is the first exhibition of its kind to inform the visitor about anatomy, physiology and health by viewing real human bodies preserved through Plastination, the preservation process invented by Dr. Gunther von Hagens in 1977, while he was working as an anatomist at the University of Heidelberg. Since the beginning of the exhibition series in Japan in 1995, more than 54 million visitors in over 150 cities in the Americas, Europe, South Africa, Asia, and Australasia have seen the world’s most successful traveling exhibition.

A Journey Under The Skin
BODY WORLDS takes visitors on an unforgettable journey into the human body. The unique exhibition provides fascinating insights into the body’s complex structure and explains how functional systems and organs interact.
Visitors will find that the exhibition experience goes much further. By looking into the inner body of a stranger, they will discover their own in a complete new way.
BODY WORLDS does not only focus on conveying anatomical knowledge. The exhibition aims to inspire visitors to live consciously, to pay more attention to their health, to recognize their physical potential and limitations, and to reflect on what it means to be human.

Dr. Angelina Whalley and Dr. Gunther von Hagens: Pioneers of Human Anatomy and Health Education
Dr. Gunther von Hagens is the visionary behind the invention of plastination and the creator of BODY WORLDS. As a physician and anatomist, Dr. von Hagens revolutionized anatomical education, making health knowledge available to a wider lay audience. His groundbreaking work began in 1977 when he invented plastination, a vacuum technique that allows the long-term preservation of anatomical specimens using specially developed reaction plastics. Through his tireless research and the establishment of the Institute for Plastination, Dr. von Hagens has opened new dimensions in the development of his invention. Together with his wife, Dr. Angelina Whalley, he brought the first BODY WORLDS exhibition to the public in 1995, captivating over 54 million people worldwide with his anatomical masterpieces.
Dr. Angelina Whalley is a renowned physician, curator, and the driving force behind the captivating exhibitions of BODY WORLDS. Since its inception in 1995, Dr. Whalley has been instrumental in shaping the image of this groundbreaking showcase, conceptualizing and designing all previous displays, both on humans and animals. With her unique scientific approach, she has made complex medical topics accessible to a broad audience, inspiring millions worldwide to live healthier lives and be more mindful of their bodies.
